This program entirely neglects Einstein’s achievements in favor of his disorganized sex life. This is rather like berating Casanova for not being a mathematical genius. The treatment of Einstein’s failures as a family man manages to be both sanctimonious and appealing at the same time. The script is barely literate, containing many grammatical ‘howlers’, and there is mighty expend of inconsequential footage. You will learn precisely nothing about science from watching this video, and not great about the man.

If you’re looking for a discussion of Einstein’s scientific genius finish here. This film was made for The Biography Channel and as such concentrates on the scientist’s – sometimes frightened – personal life. Consequently it can appear to be somewhat salacious, an abandoned first child, numerous affairs etc. However, the film is redeemed by the revelation that Einstein was targetted by Hoover’s FBI as a communist and potential ‘enemy of the state’. And of course all this was happening at the very time that Einstein was being notorious as an immigrant who had fled Nazi tyranny to obtain freedom in the United States. The script is simplistic in places and takes numerous short cuts (the First World War is over in two minutes!) but if you are looking for an introduction to Einstein the man and the times in which he lived, this is a delicate safe plot to inaugurate.

From what I know of the history of this play/movie the two ladies that worked so hard to earn ABBA and others to keep this together in GB are now two of the wealthiest women in England – and from what I have seen it drives the critics nuts, (“lousy, poor camera work, Brosnen can not carry a tune etc., etc.,) the bottom line folks, this movie fits like that venerable comfortable shirt your wife (the critic) wants you to throw away because it looks “unpleasant”. Well, the heck with em, I like my shirt, and I like meatloaf and mashed potatos, and I like Mama Mia, maybe it is mind candy, maybe it does not approach the high brow standard, but it “feels kindly” so the pundants can win their “expert” exclaim and build it where “the sun don’t shine”, this movie makes me smile and who knew Meryl Streep could tell like that – the “Winner Takes it All” maybe very poorly filmed according to the so called experts because the one I saw said “find me off the Merry-go-Round” but it definite sent chills down my serve – let the experts rave – I know what I like, and this film made me laugh – in times like these I will grasp that any stale time over what the high brows judge I should glance!

PS – as for Mr. Brosnan’s singing and why he did the film – straight from the horses mouth –

Q. What drew you to this movie? A. My agent called and said, “Meryl Streep, Mamma Mia!,” and I said, “I’m in!” I didn’t even know who I was playing. I kept thinking, I want to work with this fabulous actress.

Q. How did you fare with all the singing you had to do for the role?

A. I’ve never done anything as orchestrated or musically complex in my life. At first, I honest made noises. Then I went to London and trained in the studio with Benny [Andersson] and Bjõrn [Ulvaeus] from ABBA. My family let me know that they were very horrified for Dad when they first heard Dad deny. But relate I did.

I sometimes wonder what movie the critics peek because it rarely if ever matched the movie I recognize. I paid to examine this movie five times and took my daughter four of those times, we Cherish it. I makes you feel reliable, the music gives you energy, to me the movie made me feel young and hopeful. The loctaion it was shot in was breathtaking, the chemisty on cover was astounding! When it first came out it was not a trailer that grabbed me and I really had no interest in seeing it, but a friend of mine invited me and my daughter to go with her one night, and I am so joyful we did. I shudder to reflect I almost missed one of the best mammoth shroud experiences I’ve ever had.

I wanted to gape concert footage other than the all too well known Bucharest dvd with footage that showed more of the audience than Michael and his band (except when they were doing dance moves.) While that DVD is proper it’s not the Michael I like to explore performing nor the Michael I am former to seeing fabricate. This particular DVD concert footage doesn’t have the familiar song lineup. Not too distinguished out the norm but there are songs from the J5 days. Not honest the cute petite J5’s medley (I’ll be there, I want you support, The savor you achieve, etc.) but the young adult J5’s. Songs like ‘It’s the things I do for you’, ‘Shake your body down’, ‘Lovely one’ and ‘Heartbreak Hotel’.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Live in Japan! Click Here

This is more of the type of concert I like because he not only danced his butt off but he sings too. Many people forget he could actually command…and well! He mixes up his dance moves but he doesn’t forget to insist here and it’s a trusty treat. Although, by the time he gets to ‘Billy Jean’ he’s a puny winded from all the dancing but hasty recovers for a very bewitching, loonngg ‘Shake your body down’. In my idea, I look him smiling more here than any other concert footage I’ve seen since he was a shorty. He seemed to be having a salubrious time here, egging the audience on to participate in a Whoo hoo fest! Or having benefit and forth vocal exchanges with his background singers.

Now with all this praise you may be wondering why I didn’t give this dvd 5 stars. Well, it’s the clarity, monotonous and simple. The sound is okay but it looks as if someone recorded this onto a VHS tape, assign that recording onto another VHS and then copied the copy onto DVD with stereo sound. If you feel you need clarity to appreciate your concerts, then this is definitely not the one you should pick. I must admit I was very pissed because I believe the concert as a whole is gigantic but to examine it in such a 70’s format in this digital age is ridiculous.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Live in Japan! Click Here

I don’t know who concept this was suited enough to attach out on the market but who ever it is needs to be shot. Twice! I space out to choose this before Mike’s passing was announced. Although, I am not overjoyed with the contrivance this views I am blissful I purchased it. Bottom line; After watching this concert, it’s understood why the brother could self assuredly say, ‘I’m Bad’ and no one could argue that fact!

RIP ‘MJ didn’t play’

I enjoyed watching Michael Jackson develop some of his all-time greatest hits. This DVD contained outdoor concert performances during Jackson’s 1987 “Dreadful Tour.” Michael performed two concert dates while he was in Yokohama, Japan. (Note: Michael’s “Dreadful” album wasn’t released until August 31, 1987 which contained the song, “I Objective Can’t Terminate Loving You” — towards the raze of “Shake Your Body Down,” a caption was listed for Yokohama Stadium, Sept 26, 1987) . The “Poor Tour” was Jackson’s first solo tour (without his brothers), so this concert footage clearly wasn’t recorded in “1985.” Michael’s magical showmanship is undeniable during his energetic performances.

Sheryl Crow is featured as one of Jackson’s back-up singers. She accompanied Michael in a duet, singing “I Objective Can’t End Loving You.” I plan they performed well together on stage. The DVD’s overall represent and sound is not top quality, but its serene worth it to have in your Michael Jackson collection. The DVD footage captured a share of history and I personally believe it as memorabilia, which can be passed down to future generations. There will never, ever be another Michael Jackson. He may have left the world physically; however, his music, spirit, and legacy will last forever. Rest in Peace.

This 1999 Washington Opera production of Puccini’s chocolate box of an opera isn’t perfect, but has many delights. The cast, all verismo stalwarts, have glamour, resplendent voices, and are decent-enough actors. Marcus Haddock looks rather gloomy clean-shaven here as the juvenile; his Don Jose at Glyndebourne is powerful more physically appealling. Richard Troxell, though, is shapely and laughable as Prunier. Both the female leads are seen to satisfactory advantage, with Inva Mula in particular a delight. The physical production is lavish but not completely overwhelming, with many witty develop touches in the second act, and a nicely simple beach cottage for the third act. Marta Domingo’s direction is smart, thoughtful and well-detailed. Heart-broken, though, is her decision to impose a tragic ending on Puccini’s fill bittersweet resolution. This opera’s frequently characterized as TRAVIATA LITE; tacking on a suicide for Magda at the final curtain doesn’t enact noteworthy, except making that comparison seem weighted even more strongly in Verdi’s direction. This is probably the most delectable of the several RONDINES currently in the DVD catalogue; fans of this opera, or Puccini in general, will delight in this radiant DG release.

There are currently four DVD versions for La Rondine.

For my taste, this original one from Decca is the best.

Martha Domingo presents the opera in a radiant and effective venerable production.

I really enjoyed Ainhoa Arteta performance as Magda. Hers two Act I arias are sung with pretty pianissimi and finesse which expresses vulnerability. She is very enchanting in the finales of Act II and III.

Hopefully, the lavish Met production with Gheorghiu will appear on a commercial DVD (although it has a very archaic performance by Samuel Ramey) . In the meantime, this production will do more than enough.

I don’t know if I have ever seen a movie with Doris Day in it that I didn’t like and this is no exception. Doris plays an out of work, girl next door, character, Cary Grant, a millionaire, Gig Young works for Cary and Audrey Meadows is her room-mate and friend. Because the car that Cary was riding in accidently splashes water on Doris, Cary sends Gig to apologize and then when Gig sees her reaction he thinks that finally here is a girl that will put his boss in his place and encourages her to go tell Cary how she feels. It backfires, and Doris falls for Cary, but being a modest moral female, when he proposes that she come with him on a trip that doesn’t include marriage, she has misgivings. She decides to go finally, but then develops a rash at the thought of doing the immoral act and then it keeps getting funnier. Gig Young and Audrey Meadows are really great in the movie also. I recommend the movie. Enjoy!

Doris Day’s day starts off badly when she is drenched by a passing limo. She gets angry but does not know the limo passenger (Cary Grant) feels bad and wishes to make amends. Later Grant spots Day from his office and sends Gig Young to make sure she is all right and taken care of. Day’s roommate (Audrey Meadows) is her self-appointed protector of her virtue.

Buy,Download, Or Stream That Touch of Mink! Click Here

Things quickly move forward when Grant and Day first meet face to face and fall in love. Small-town Day is not sure what to make of millionaire Grant at first as he tries to whirl her off her feet. It is obvious that Grant is trying for more than Day is willing to give out (at least at this stage) and events unfold hilariously.

The plot twists and situations would be at home in a Frank Capra movie. The dialogue is snappy and full of innuendo. Day’s character even has far more depth than Meadows suspects. Although she comes from upstate New York, she manages to hold her own both against and with Grant. It all culminates wonderfully in a way few comedies manage. A must see for fans of classic stars and comedies.

When the Japanese lost the war, this trauma had to be explained and given meaning. Ironically, shortly after Hiroshima, positive Japanese films critiqued the aggressive militarism that led to the worry [See Kurosawa's "No Regrets for our Youth]. Then, the Japanese films changed. They stopped focusing on their occupy culpability in the wretchedness or their hold war crimes, and concentrated on the loss, tragedy, and sorrow of losing so many Japanese sons. This film, “Twenty-Four Eyes,” fits into that category…and for that reason has been so celebrated in Japan for fifty years.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Twenty-Four Eyes – Criterion Collection! Click Here

As an example, when World War II looms, the boy students talk about becoming soldiers. Their teacher, Ms Oishe, responds that she prefers fishermen or rice sellers to soldiers. Later she is criticized gently for her “lack of patriotism” in her speech to the boys. To be stunning, one aspect of anti-militarism ..the loss of freedom of speech…is well handled.

The chronicle focuses on a self-sacrificing teacher and her relationship to 12 students over two decades. Everything is filmed around a minute village bordering the ocean. Over these many years, the female teacher forges strong emotional bonds with all her students…and so when the boys go to war…and some don’t return, her deep, personal loss is as outrageous as that of a parent. The themes are reinforced though the changing moods of the sea or of the folk songs which the school chants. It’s a very finely done film, although perhaps overly sentimental for my tastes. A astronomical deal of attention is given to the unruffled, contemplative cinematography.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Twenty-Four Eyes – Criterion Collection! Click Here

But…the director certainly never addresses the many injustices practiced by the Japanese on so many other Asian peoples. It reminded me, in a draw, of the Buddhist movie “The Burmese Harp”…another suitable anti-war film that also sidesteps the whisper of Japanese culpability. Nevertheless, few films are so poignantly intimate in treating the loss of life in war as this Japanese peep. It does this because it slowly acquaints the viewer with the daily lives of the twelve boys and girls – all adorable – who grow up with their teacher in the miniature, terrible village on the sea. In other words, the memory of the soldiers…as children…is a very notable perspective because what this film does, which no other movie does quite as well, is to depict war as The Death of Innocence.

Recommended.

This movie has been considered a classic in Japan since its release in 1954, and it’s easy to discover why. It begins as a charming, innocent portrait of a unusual teacher and her first grade class and slowly deepens into a touching yet realistic depiction of how each child’s life goes on in its hold diagram. Some of the children prosper, some descend into poverty and tragedy, but the matter-of-fact contrivance that profound emotional issues are handled in this film without putting off the viewer is a feat that has never been accomplished so well before or since. A truly worthy fragment of art.

I will not argue about the anecdote, the stars and the production. this is a astronomical all around movie. But it deserved a far better DVD transfer then Fox gave it. They chose to cheap out on a very generous soundtrack and pass on a DD 5.1 upgrade, leaving the modern (VHS) Dolby 2.0. The film transfer is at times grainy and no better than VHS, in fact we compared it to the tape and found it about the same. The film was transferred to a 2.35 wide hide format. The only “extra” was the modern trailer. Fox was certainly after the rapid buck on this conversion. We give the film 5 stars for its entertainment value, but 0 for it’s DVD technical merits. I guess that makes it a 3 overall. Michael Douglas/Robert Zemekis how could you let Fox do this to your film.

This cute small record revolves around two self described dragon hunters, Lian-Chu and Gwizdo, whom reside in a mystical world where land masses float high in the sky like itsy-bitsy islands. Orphaned before they knew their parents, the two unlikely friends had somehow found each other and came to rely on each others unusual abilities for survival. Lian-Chu, though quite ample, was poorly educated and cannot read or write. Gwizdo, though street sparkling and able to read, lacks the ability to defend himself. The combination of Gwizdo’s greedy and almost endless scheming for gold and Lian-Chu’s kind heart do for an tantalizing team. Gwizdo’s and Lian-Chu’s past adventures apparently landed them at where this wild chronicle begins, an inn far removed from the general populations. A stout, somewhat overbearing woman and her tiny girl urge the inn and have taken in the two perpetually broke misfits. This group of characters is where the Dragon Hunters stories really shine, as these completely mismatched batch of lonely people have approach together and formed a more than slightly outlandish family. I must confess that I am a sucker for this type of storytelling.

I have only seen the first four episodes, but by the time I finished the fourth episode (my approved of disc 1) I was completely in appreciate with this tale-tale.

I contemplate it is clear from my description that I recommend this title. However, I would like to offer a puny warning for parents regarding some of the more faded moments in this prove. Because the main characters are dragon hunters, there are some plain moments that might be too intense for very limited viewers, such as the death of a horse in episode 3. Also, the inn keeper has a bit of a crush on one of the two main characters and wishes to add him to the already long list of husbands she has had. But this is played fairly innocently and I found nothing objectionable.

Overall, I would rate Dragon Hunters a gentle PG.

With a strong sense of family and it’s heart very worthy in the apt region, I give Dragon Hunters a very high recommendation.

As I have only given a cramped overview of the indicate,[..][..].

Hopefully, this title will derive a bit more attention as more volumes are released.
